Andrew Lansley was yesterday accused of performing a U-turn over plans to scrap NHS Direct.
He insisted he had ‘not announced plans to scrap NHS Direct’ – just the telephone number.
The apparent climbdown came after the Department of Health last month said the service would be scrapped.
